Inheritance - Oberon - The Mountain Of Fate

It was thick and its roots went directly into the river. It was so hot it wouldn't be able to survive if not. With the tree to mark the path, they set off around the edge of the lake, careful to avoid the middle for it was dangerously rough. As they began to entre the northern path Eragon spoke with great length to the old dragons. They spoke of the old city the riders built. They taught him about how to build with magic, and how best to build the nests for the eggs. This gave him a rough idea of how he would plan for his city, and Saphira received many lessons on how to build and care for a nest.

It must be high in a cave and well protected from the elements. They talked late into the night, and Eragon soon fell into his waking dreams in a chair on the ship deck. His dreams took turns from being about Arya and of his home. The sunrise woke him, but he was not in a pleasant mood. Homesickness and loneliness clung to him. He sat up and to his surprise, the air was cooler than the harshness of the desert. He began to see plants growing nearer to the river, bushes and grasses mostly with many small trees in between, a welcomed change from the constant cactuses that he kept seeing.

As he extended his gaze, he noticed larger trees at the end of his field of view. This exited him and he knew it would make the elves very pleased. Elves were not too happy to live in the extreme heat of the desert, so seeing a forest would make them joyful. Plus getting out of the heat of the sun would be good for his, already horribly burned skin.

It had been almost a week since he had left and Eragon was stricken with sadness. They had not found anywhere quite suited for their needs yet, and try as he might, his thoughts would return home, to Roran, Nausuada and Orik.

He refused to think of Arya, for if he did, he would soon be daydreaming with tears filling his eyes. He remained optimistic though, and soon enough, the campfire was made. He sat by the fire and stroked Saphiras chin. You need not be so sad, for I think we may be seeing those two far quicker than you may think. The elves began to sing and dance around the campfire. It was a relaxing song with a slow rhythm, something Eragon found calming and before he knew it, he fell asleep against the warm stomach of Saphira.

That night his dreams were more pleasant. He dreamed of Brom. How he had taught him in such a little time helped Eragon plan of how he too was going to teach his students. He awoke to find the elves already preparing for departure. He accepted his fate but it made him long for events to speed up. As he swept his gaze across the land, he noticed they were coming up on a more dense area of trees, no doubt a huge forest.

The trees were more close together than the forest of Du Weldenvarden, but this forest contained only maple trees. A beautiful sight as it was all lush greens with thousands of leaves on the ground and on the branches. It was a young forest, and seemed full of animals. Birds chipped and he saw squirrels run around high above. I would not doubt it. There seems to be many animals I don't know of.

He showed her a mental image of what appeared to be a brown mouse or squirrel with wings that glided between trees. It's a shame they cannot see the world from higher up. Saphira then mentioned how the forest showed no sign of stopping. Eragon snorted and turned to watching the waves again. A full week after they had stopped, while Eragon was riding Saphira, the landscape began to change once again. Instead of flat forests, they came to gaze upon plains after plains.

Rolling around the river as they eventually grew into hills. As this elevation changed Eragon got a new sense of hope, as did the elves. At noon Eragon went for a ride on Saphira, this returned nothing but more rolling hills, hills that kept getting larger and larger. The air was still warm but had a much more pleasant feel, with a nice cool breeze on his skin. His sunburn was gone but it left him with a small tan. This time however, he noticed something in the distance, it seemed very small but it cut the horizon like a knife barely piercing through flesh.

This was unmistakably a mountain, maybe more. As the day grew on, the mountains got bigger and bigger. As he looked up he saw that they were about as tall as the mountains back on Vroenguard. The lake they now glided into was water calm enough every ripple could be seen from miles away.

As they reached the far shore, Eragon had been able to grasp the full size of the mountains. They formed a sort of ring, but he could not see what was inside, for there was no valley in sight. Whilst the elves removed all the items from the ship, Eragon, with the help of all the dragons, cast his mind out. There are a couple of ways to read Oberon's character. At times, he can be a compassionate and benevolent softie. Why do we think so?

Because he feels so sorry for Helena that he uses his magic to help her land Demetrius, and he also goes out of his way to make sure that each of the young Athenian lovers is paired up with a suitable partner.

He even blesses the happy couples' marriage beds so they won't have ugly kids. On the other hand, Oberon only helps the lovers out after he's had a good laugh at their expense. At times, he also acts like a jealous, power-hungry jerk who's willing to trick and humiliate his own wife in order to get his way.

It doesn't look so good when Titania refuses to hand over her foster child, so he sprinkles love juice in her eyes and makes her fall in love with an "ass" and be distracted enough to give up the little "changeling" boy. Even though Oberon eventually takes pity on Titania, he only reverses the spell after he gets his way. Either way you read Oberon, one thing is clear: The Fairy King really likes a good joke, which is why he's chosen mischievous Puck to be his servant.

He is so strong that he has been known to cleave men in two with a single blow of his sword. Gregor's knighthood is regarded as a hypocritical mockery of justice by many, as he is a thoroughly dishonorable and undisciplined butcher.

While Gregor is so strong that he can easily fight the strongest knights in Westeros, his greatest enthusiasm in wartime is for burning out the homes of peasants who cannot possibly fight back, and torturing their women and children to death.

Indeed, Gregor's immense size isn't really his main attribute to Tywin, so much as his utter enthusiasm for committing atrocities. With a "might makes right" mentality, Gregor feels that his immense bulk and strength gives him impunity to behave as he does, as few would dare to challenge him.

While Gregor is incredibly dangerous in combat, he relies more on sheer strength than on speed or skill. Gregor has gone through multiple wives, who died from the extremely rough treatment they received from Gregor, though there are rumors that he killed them on purpose. His father and younger sister also died suspiciously.

Sandor Clegane left when Gregor succeeded their father and never returned. According to Sandor, he once killed one of his men for snoring. Gregor's men-at-arms are known as " The Mountain's men ". His cruelty and brutality are clearly mirrored in them.

The best thing that can be said about them is that they are less vile and violent than the Brave Companions, Vargo Hoat 's sellsword company. Those who are mentioned specifically in the books are:. Sandor wanted the articulated jointed knight that Gregor got, so he took it. Gregor was ten and already big enough to be training so he didn't even care about the toy, but when he found six year old Sandor playing with it - without warning he pushed Sandor's head into a brazier and held him there.

It took three men to get Sandor away from him, and their father told people that Sandor's bed linens had caught fire. It was later when Gregor was anointed a knight that Sandor Clegane lost all respect for the institution of knighthood, and has steadfastly refused to be knighted himself. Sandor also tells Sansa that the death of Hugh of the Vale was not a tournament accident. Ser Hugh had obviously put on the armor himself and had not set the neck protector correctly.

He says Gregor saw that, and thus could have sent the blow elsewhere, and that the lance didn't just accidentally deflect upward, as Gregor puts his lance exactly where he intends it to go every time. He meant to kill Ser Hugh, though it isn't clear if this was an assassination to silence Hugh, or just Gregor enjoying the carnage.

Tyrion answers that "the woods are full of beasts", and Tywin says he'll think it over. Later, Tywin decides against the idea, stating that "Ser Gregor has served us well. No other knight in the realm inspires such terror in our enemies"; in order to appease the Martells, he comes up with the idea to put the entire blame on Amory Lorch who is, quite conveniently, dead. As things turn to be, Tywin's new version of the death of Elia and her children does not stop Oberyn from fighting Gregor.

After Loras is sent to resolve the siege of Dragonstone, Qyburn tells Cersei that in case Loras dies, she will need to find another worthy for the Kingsguard. He claims "I had another sort of champion in mind. What he lacks in gallantry he will give you tenfold in devotion. He will protect your son, kill your enemies, and keep your secrets, and no living man will be able to withstand him".

Only Obara is skeptical, suspecting a deception. Nymeria tells her half-sister to lighten up, as Gregor was the only 8-foot tall man in all of Westeros, and Cersei would be exposed as a liar before the entire continent if it turned out he was somehow still alive. What Nymeria says makes perfect sense, except that Cersei is far from being rational and clever. Obara has no idea how much she is close to the truth.

Following Cersei's downfall, Qyburn visits her in prison and informs her new champion stands ready. She begs her uncle to have Tommen appoint a man whom Qyburn knows his name. Following Cersei's walk of penance, Qyburn introduces her to Ser Robert Strong , a man clad from head to toe in white armor no part of him is visible and matching Gregor's physique. According to Qyburn, Strong has taken a holy vow of silence until all of King Tommen's enemies are defeated.

Many people, including Kevan Lannister and Grand Maester Pycelle, theorize that Strong is actually Gregor, or maybe even a Frankenstein's monster assembled from Gregor's body as well as other bodies. In an earlier book, Bran Stark has a vision of Strong, and when his visor lifts, there is only darkness and black blood, leaving it ambiguous as to whether or not Strong even has a head. In the television series, Cersei's new Kingsguard is not given a name, and what is seen of his face through his helmet matches that of Gregor, somewhat confirming that Gregor and Strong are the same man.

In the sixth season of the series, he is still referred to as Gregor Clegane, the Robert Strong name having been dropped entirely. In the novels the murder of Rhaenys is assigned to Amory Lorch, another knight in the service of the Lannisters; the TV-series omitted this, and Gregor was blamed for the death of Elia, Aegon and Rhaenys.

  1. That quote is from their web page. Oberon is the performance duo of Yuri Crescenzio and Alberto Baretta of Padua, Italy, two young guys with big creative dreams. You can hear it through and through on this delightful debut album, a conceptual work rooted in Greek mythology but seeking to comment on modern dysfunctions as well.
  2. Conclusion: Oberon started their studio adventure with an album of lights and shades. The lights are some cool tracks and glimpses of very good songwriting inspired in acts like Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and other legends of the 70's, and the shades are the unfitting vocals, the weak productions and some uninspired moments which make the hearing of this album rather unpleasant at times.2/5.
